GARDEN WITH A PURPOSE

We all need to garden with a purpose and do our part for the environment by establishing wild-life friendly areas in our own backyards. Habitat loss, causes species loss and worsens the effects of climate change.

If you want a pristine and sculptured garden this is not the garden for you. Leave the dead leaves, dead plant stalks, dead wood and plants as these are fundamental to the life of a biodiverse garden.

Pollinators need diverse, flowering plants from spring to fall, with accessible pollen and nectar. A diverse array of plant and landscape features where pollinators can lay there eggs, shelter and burrow. An intricate community that can act as a grocery and supply store for native animals and birds. To quote a great gardener, Martin Galloway “Holes in leaves are good!” It means the plants have a purpose for biodiversity.

Native plants matter when trying to create conditions that will attract and bring native pollinators to your garden. Native plants are generally defined as plants that have evolved over the years with other plants, animals, geological features and climate of the region. When we plant native plants we are strengthening and supporting those natural connections that have developed over thousands of years in our areas.

They contribute to biodiversity, climate resiliency and create habitat connections and pathways for insects and other animals.

LAST BUT NOT LEAST — THEY ARE BEAUTIFUL ADDITIONS TO GARDENS!
